Spectator Brawl in Stands at Flushing Meadows Interrupts Play at US Open

The action on the court was nothing compared to that in the stands of the 2010 U.S. Open yesterday, September 2, 2010.

Please Note: Foul language can be heard on this video.

Security guards and police were needed when a fight broke out between three tennis fans during Novak Djokovic’s match against Philipp Petzschner. Police detained three individuals and escorted them out of the stadium. But, get this… The fight was between a young male and a woman and her elderly father. (What a fine, upstanding citizen this guy must be.)

Cursing Leads to Brawl

The fight apparently started when a woman and her father (pictured at right) took exception to the cursing of the younger male fan (left) during Djokovic’s match against Pezschner in the eighth game of the first set of play during the 2010 U.S. Open on Thursday, September 2, 2010.

And the Fight Begins

After the swearing worsened, the elderly father physically confronted the young hooligan.

Others Join In the Fun

After the woman slapped the younger man, other members of the crowd joined the fight against the young man.

Everybody Get This Guy

Apparently, everyone was sick of the antics by the younger man – as several other spectators came to the woman and her father’s aide – subduing the younger man before authorities arrived.

The three fans involved in the fight were handcuffed and taken out of the stadium. None of the fans, however, were arrested. They were simply escorted out of the arena and told not to return to the U.S. Open anytime soon.

Not that anyone was really interested in the tennis afterwards, but Djokovic went on to beat 52nd seed Philipp Petzschner of Germany 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).

  1. That guy is a tool. People like that give all New Yorkers a bad reputation.

  2. OK first of all you’re an idiot. They were arguing because the man on the way back to his seat got over taken by this woman and her father and got his seat taken. He confronted the woman (like anyone would) and asked for his seat back. She then started yelling at the man and threatening to get security claiming the seats were hers. He (being very frustrated that she was overdramitizing the whole situation) then began to yell back. This went on for a few minutes until the father stood up and said he would move seats. He sat down and obviously said a crude remark which I think we’ll all agree he shouldn’t have. The woman slapped him and the two argued for a while until the father told her to take her seat and ASSAULTED the man and tackled him down the stairs. Then wannabe thugs from the rows above proceeded by punching and kicking the man, getting involved where they shouldn’t have and physically assaulted him also. If anyone should be arrested it should be the lady, her father and all the brutes who attacked the man.

    • Ha ha…. Okay “Me” – are you really “the man”????

You know, the funniest thing about this might actually be the commentary from guy heard clearly on the second video. From his seat, without getting involved of course, he’s heard repeatedly blaring “throw the bum out” and “get him outta here noowwww” over and over again. Funny.

  3. This website is bullshit, the guy was clearly attacked for no reason. Who cares if someone swears? Clearly just a grumpy old bastard.
The young guy did nothing at all wrong.

    • “Who cares if someone swears?” Really, you don’t think people in today’s modern society care if others swear profusely around them? Being a father to young children, I can tell you that there are many (MANY) people who “care if someone swears.” Also being a person who attends church on a regular basis, I can tell you that there is a very large segment of the population that “care if someone swears.” No matter who was to blame for this situation, the younger guy certainly could have handled the situation better. (For one, just shut your freaking mouth and get security to have the woman arrested after she jacked you in the face.) I’m not saying that the woman had the “right” to slap the crap out of him, but judging by the things he is saying to her – I’m glad she did it. And, again being a father myself, I applaud the old man for at least trying to put the young guy in his place. (Granted, it looks like he almost killed himself in the process – taking up for his daughter was the right thing to do.)

  4. I’m pretty sure it’s called freedom of speech, which he is exercising. However, she slapped him, and he clapped and did not reciprocate. Her husband decided to take it one step further and he decked the old fucker.

This kid stood up for his rights and herd mentality kicks in and wants him to leave?

    F’ing monkeys.

First amendment d### holes. If you don’t like it, move to another f’ing country.

  5. Freedom of speech is also what allows you to write news articles like this. He has every right to use whatever language he wants to, as do you. If he can’t speak his mind, neither can you.

Words were his weapons, hands and fists were the weapons of this old man and his daughter.

Freedom is a double edged sword. but it is what makes this country great.
